Winship Cancer Institute

 

Basic science research at the cellular and molecular levels aimed at better understanding the causes of cancer, how current treatments work, and developing potential new therapies.

 

Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute is Georgia’s first and only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive care center and an NCI-selected National Center of Cancer Nanotechnology. Care is state-of-the-art. For example, Winship was the first in Georgia to use the RapidArc radiation therapy system offering reduced treatment times. The facility has strong collaborative research partnerships with Georgia Tech, American Cancer Society, Yerkes Primate Center, Centers for Disease Control, Georgia Cancer Coalition and Georgia CORE to help maximize access to cancer clinical trials and support patient care close to home. Winship is known for its prolific research groups, comprised of a cross-section of disciplines, which investigate cancer prevention, oncology and cancer genetics.
