Markey Cancer Center is Kentucky’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. It provides primary patient care and support services as well as advanced specialty care with applicable clinical trials. Markey received U.S. News & World Report’s highest grade for use of advanced technology, availability of key patient services, and nurse-to-patient ratio. Markey is affiliated with eight hospitals and is in the process of cementing a partnership with Kentucky’s largest health care system. Research programs include cancer cell biology and signaling, cancer prevention and control, drug discovery, delivery and translational therapeutics, and redox injury and repair. Shared-resource facilities include biospecimen and tissue procurement, biostatistics, cancer research informatics, clinical research and data management, flow cytometry and cell sorting, and free radical biology in cancer.
